National Technology Day: Super Water Boat and Self-Cleaning Solar Panels Highlight JEC Innovation- 11 May 2026
On 11 May 20256 Jabalpur Engineering College (JEC) joined the nation in celebrating National Technology Day by showcasing innovative projects developed by its students and researchers. Observed every year on 11th May, National Technology Day commemorates Operation Shakti (Pokhran-II), during which India successfully conducted a series of five nuclear tests in 1998 under the leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and renowned scientist Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The day recognises India's achievements in science, technology, and innovation. Marking the occasion, JEC contributed its share to this national celebration by providing a platform for young innovators to showcase their talent, creativity, and engineering skills through projects aimed at solving real-world challenges. One such project was the “Super Water Boat” developed by Manas Chouksey, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student. Made from high-density thermocol and wood, the specially designed boat remains stable even in rough water and strong waves. The project was developed for a national-level competition and successfully passed several performance tests.

Another remarkable achievement was the development of a self-cleaning nanomaterial coating for solar panels. Led by Dr Abhineet Samadhiya, the research aims to prevent dust from settling on solar panels. The special coating allows rainwater to naturally wash away dirt, helping panels stay clean and operate more efficiently while reducing maintenance costs. The research was carried out under the guidance of Dr Kamal Kumar Kushwaha ( HOD, Department of Applied Physics) and Dr Pradeep Kumar Singh. Recognising the students' talent, dedication, and innovative spirit, Principal Dr Rajeev Chandak congratulated them on their achievements and encouraged them to continue pursuing research and innovation. He remarked that while JEC's contribution to National Technology Day may be modest, its purpose is significant—"to inspire students to think creatively, innovate fearlessly, and emerge as future contributors to India's technological advancement."
